Julius jones11/8/2023 Thank you to the parole board and Governor Stitt. "I’m so grateful to everyone who used their voice and helped to save Julius’s life today. "He said if you are doing something your mom wouldn’t approve of then you shouldn’t be doing it. Julius was hanging out with the wrong crowd and that landed him in the position he’s in today. She believed an innocent man was about to be put to death. In 2018 she watched a documentary about his case and felt conflicted. ![]() Jones-Davis, who is no relation to Julius, moved to Oklahoma with her family after her husband got a job with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The most important is that you have to always make sure you are doing the right thing. But Cece Jones-Davis was one of his most important advocates. She continued: "He also wanted me to pass a few messages along that were really important to him. She added Jones did not take them as he has a "clear conscience" and did not want to be "drugged up". ![]() She went on to describe how Jones spent what he thought at the time could be his final hours, saying he refused to take anti-anxiety medication which she claimed death row inmates "usually are forced to take before you are executed so that you can be more calm about the fact that you are about to be executed." Meaning he cannot still hug his family members before being executed. "I spent most of my day on the phone with Julius yesterday in between his lawyer meetings and family visitation which still are not contact visits. She tweeted: "Thank you so much Governor Stitt for commuting Julius Jones sentence to life without parole and stopping his execution today. Kim Kardashian West also thanked Governor Smitt for commuting the sentence. “While we had hoped the Governor would adopt the Board’s recommendation in full by commuting Julius’s sentence to life with the possibility of parole in light of the overwhelming evidence of Julius’s innocence, we are grateful that the Governor has prevented an irreparable mistake.” “Governor Stitt took an important step today towards restoring public faith in the criminal justice system by ensuring that Oklahoma does not execute an innocent man. ![]() Reacting to the news that his sentence had been commuted, Jones' attorney Amanda Bass said they were grateful for the Governor preventing an "irreparable mistake". Jones had always maintained his innocence and his supporters said his life should be spared because of doubts in the case, but Mr Howell's family was certain he was the gunman that day.
